School Visits
School visits are handled by Philip (the dedicated public speaker in the family of two introverts). He presents his own books as well those that he has made with Erin or with others.
The day rate includes 2 presentations (a third lower-tech presentation is sometimes added for pre-K and/or kindergarten for an additional fee). For current rates please write: contact@numberfivebus.com
The presentation is 45-60 minutes in length depending on the scheduling needs of the school. The presentation will cover all aspects of the book making process including idea generation, writing and revision, and art making techniques. The presentation is suitable for K-5. When possible it's nice to keep K-2 and 3-5 together as groups. There will be time at the end of each presentation for a Q and A with the students. Schools must provide a projector that is compatible with a Macbook Air. Philip will bring his own computer and all standard adaptors. A microphone is required if the presentation is in a gym. A microphone is not required, but can be helpful, if the presentation is in a library.
Schools that are interested in running a book sale for the students are encouraged to contact a local bookstore. Many stores have standard procedures for school visits and will work with you to provide order forms and QR codes to make ordering both easy and efficient. A few stores Philip has worked with in South Michigan are 2 Dandelions Bookshop in Brighton, Bookbug in Kalamazoo, and Literati in Ann Arbor.
